.45 "Revolver Ball", 1877 Frankford Arsenal. Dated 1877, this is the .45 Colt (& Schofield)  packet of the Benet-primed cartridges shipped from the arsenal to the troops from 1875 to 1882. A far rarer date than the 1878 packet, this example is still sealed with correct drawstring placement and none of the typical seam separations! $525

38 Long Colt
Rare 1880s Headstamp:
 "US 38 Army"

U.S. Cartridge Co. "Colt's New Army Revolver".  Ca. mid-1880s, the cartridges in this box are all headstamped with the desirable, "US 38 Army". To the best of my knowledge, the headstamp "38 Army" exists on no other cartridge! Nor did it last long on cartridges by USC in this or any succeeding labeling!
Although there's a barely noticeable trace of tape removal the box is tight with a complete side-seal label and cartridges all appear native. Seldom offered or even seen--a RARE box!

225 Winchester Winchester. Introduced in 1964, Winchester no longer produced guns in .225 caliber after 1971. As a result the ammo is seldom encountered and when found is typically over $100/box! This is only the 2nd time I have offered this caliber since 1992--have 4 boxes and am offering these at only... $85

22 Savage H.P.
(5.6x52R)
Norma (Sweden). Clean, 71 gr JSP loading. Norma is often said to be the "World's standard" for ammunition. $85
25 L RF Stevens Canuck (Canadian Inds. Ltd). Ca 1970. (Have several) $165
  9/30/24
310 Cadet Kynoch. This scarce loading is one of the few Brit calibers I get calls for. The box has transparent tape over the left end flap and a small tape removal "scar" over the right, neither very distracting (see pic), but ctdgs are all clean & native to the box. The box itself is very solid and unrepaired and exhibits great colour (sorry, just couldn't help myself) !  Also, it has an internal cartridge tray with dividers so that the ctdgs are never in contact with one another. Interesting and seldom seen! $150

30-'03

[Bargain Bin]
Winchester. This "Gov't"cartridge was chambered in only ONE Winchester rifle: the Model 1895. I often get calls for boxes in this very scarce and long obsolete caliber but it's very seldom that I can help these folks.  So it is with this realization that, with some temerity, I list this original Winchester box containing but ONE cartridge in the hope that some collector will be thankful to find even this humble box for his display. The bottom ends have the usual separations (easily repairable) but the box is basically sound (though perhaps in need of some gentle wiping or cleaning). The ctdg is quite nice with but one spot of staining but no corrosion or neck splits.

[The lower label in the photo is near the bottom of the back side.]

Norma. Now rare in this, its original factory loading, the cartridge was developed and originally loaded in Europe but never gained much traction in the U.S. Have 2 loadings with this same box graphic (both flaps w/ loading data pictured); priced the same, your choice:

5 boxes "160 gr Soft Point Semi Pointed BoatTail",

2 boxes "154 gr S.P. Spire Point".

Norma. As above: Now rare in this, its original factory loading, the cartridge was developed and originally loaded in Europe but never gained much traction in the U.S. These boxes together contain 26 orig rds + 14 fired brass, the top box pictured being full but with loose flaps, the lower box missing the right flap. $50

Two full boxes (100 rds, total) of factory-loaded, clean cartridges--but mixed headstamps, as follows:

1 box Peters HighVelocity with 34 orig rds + 16 Win SuperSpeed rds.

358 Winchester Winchester-Western, the scarce and most desirable 200 gr SILVERTIPS (not "Power Points"). The greatest fodder for those rare Winchester Model 88s and Model 70s--and the ammo's getting to be as rare as the guns!! $95
  9/20/24
33 WCF (WIN) UMC/Rem-UMC transition box, ca 1910-11. Interesting box with --all original--labeling calling out both UMC (1910 & earlier) as well as the combined Remington-UMC logo of 1911 on bottom ends. The cartridges, however, while factory-loaded are mixed; mostly being the much scarcer & earliest "UMC" headstamps with the "u" brass (denoting Smokeless) primers but also including similar ctdgs with the Rem-UMC headstamp. The latter, given the labeling, may or may not have been native to the box. There are also four slightly later (mid-'Teens) rds with nickeled primers. It's logical that such transition boxes such as this (in many other calibers and labelings) should exist but, though I've suspected a few others, this is the first of which I'm confident!

Remington Kleanbore, ca 1950s. Three full, original boxes of factory-loaded cartridges. The boxes aren't exactly collectible quality but the powder "shakes free" in the ctdgs. Take all 3 boxes for $287.50 INCLUDING shipping! All 3: $287.50, SHIPPED

33 WCF (WIN)
[Bargain Bin]
Winchester. While missing its end flaps, this box is the colorful "1939" variety of the earlier "1935 Style". The back side has the same graphics as the front (pictured) but has writing and is missing a sliver (approx 3/16"x1") of cardboard at the right upper edge affecting neither text nor the black margin. The headstamp on the cartridges (all but one) are the early "WRACo 33 WCF". The exception is a rare filler mfd by Dominion of Canada and is headstamped "D.C.Co".  CHEAP! $85
33 WCF (WIN)
[Bargain Bin]
[red/yellow box similar to below] Mixed box w/ no flaps containing 19 VERY SCARCE "33 WCF USCCo " rds and one "D.C.Co 33 WCF" rd. $90
33 WCF (WIN)
[Bargain Bin]
Winchester. This is the last box graphic in which Winchester offered this caliber; called the "1946" style, it was discontinued in the early/mid-'50s. This box is missing both end flaps, however the cartridges are all factory-loaded and original and bearing the last headstamp: "WRA 33 Win". Like the Remington boxes above, it's not exactly collectible quality but the powder "shakes free" in the ctdgs. $95
16 Gauge BRASS
Primed Shells
Winchester. Full-cover, 2-pc box ca mid-1920s. Full of its clean, original "Primed BRASS Shells" with the headstamp: "WINCHESTER No. 16". Box is very solid and showing no signs of repair.
Brass shells are RARE in 16 Ga!
(Note: Primed Shells are NOT loaded loaded with shot or powder!)
$185
  9/11/24
38-55 Winchester-Western. Orig boxes of clean, factory-loaded NOS ("New Old Stock") ctdgs, have 6! $67.50
  9/8/24
50-110 Winchester Express Winchester. AS ABOVE EXCEPT DESIRABLE BLUE LABEL & NICER! One of the most collectible of all Winchester cartridges AND cartridge boxes, this is the Black Powder "Express" box intro'd in the late-1880s. Express cartridges all have the correct "raised X" on the  copper tube in the nose of the bullet. [See Giles & Shuey, pg 160.]
However this box has much less scuffing and NONE of the usual bottom end separations. Again, a great find for cartridge collector, cartridge box collector or Win M86 collector.

50-110
Early Smokeless
RARE
Jacketed
Hollow Points

Winchester. This very scarce blue labeling is earliest of the Smokeless loadings with the "47 grs Smkls Pwdr" callout, ca 1896-98 (see Giles & Shuey, pg. 161). Except for some normal "shelf-wear", the labels are complete and both of the desirable "Sunburst " labels are present, "Smokeless" on the front and "Soft Point Metal Patched" on the end. Most interesting, however, is the fact that the bullets in these early Smkls boxes were not simply Jacketed Soft Points, but were Jacketed HOLLOW Soft Points!  Cartridges are clean & correct. A great find in this largest of Win M86 calibers.
[This is only one of 3 such boxes I have had in 30+ years!]

44-90 "Creedmoor" U.M.C. This is the 1870s label graphic ("prone shooter and Dog Logo") which I adapted over 30 years ago to highlight my business card! Box is full of correct catridges: Unheadstamped, ringed "balloon" heads; Berdan primed, with paper-patched bullets. A piece of history which remains my favorite box graphic of all-time, this box has been in my collection for over 30 years! $950

50-110 Smkls JHP

(Rare loading)

Winchester. This Jacketed Hollow Point loading in a Smokeless Pwdr box is RARE in any labeling; however, this is the only one I've ever seen in THIS  labeling: "HOLLOW SOFT POINT" in red print on a stick-on lid-end label! Nine original cartridges (with the "W" primers denoting Smkls) remain. The box has no front label, apparently never has: all the labeling is on the lid-top and ends. Possibly one-of-a-kind, it's not in Giles & Shuey as I wasn't aware of its existence until it was found in the now-famous Reichenbach* collection!

*Bob Reichenbach was a life-long Winchester employee and ammo collector. Having long since retired and now passed away, his immense collection had lain dormant for a number of  years. His widow began disposing of the collection only about 2 years ago and now she, too, has passed on. The sale of the collection has only recently been completed.

Winchester. This Jacketed Hollow Point loading in a Smokeless Pwdr box is very RARE; in fact, this is only the 2nd I've ever seen and the only in this labeling. Note the end sticker label "HOLLOW SOFT POINT" in red print!

22 Cal. Daisy VL Caseless Ammunition Daisy VL .22 Caseless Ammunition 1000 rds - For Sale - Click Image to Close Daisy/Heddon. During 1968-69, Daisy, America's best-known "BB-Gun" manufacturer, produced a rifle that fired these caseless cartridges that no primer or case but propelled a 29gr .22 bullet (same as a standard .22 S or L)  at 1150 fps. The BATF, however, demanded Daisy become licensed as a firearms manufacturer (rather than airguns) and Daisy was reluctant to take that step and exited the business, opting and return to making and marketing their line of famous BB guns. The ammo came packaged in 100-rd strip packs, 10 packs to a "brick". And offered here is the opportunity to buy a quantity of the fast-disappearing ammo for these seldom seen, now "Curio & Relic", little guns!  Case of 5 1000 rd bricks

  8/14/24
44 XL Shot Peters. Thought to be ca. mid-'Teens, this 2-pc "Semi-Smokeless" box is full of properly headstamped ctdgs albeit some have nickeled primers and some copper. The paper sabots containing the shot are all tight--very unusual, as these are fragile and most often found partially split or even open (or worse). This is the first box I've ever had by Peters and only the 2nd by any maker in the past 5 years (or longer)! $465
  8/14/24
45 "Revolver Ball"
(Colt & Schofield)
Frankford Arsenal, 1878. Sealed packet of 12 ctdgs with none of the commonly found edge-splits/repairs, repairs which are often found with the pull-string misplaced when repaired and re-sealed. This one is guaranteed to be totally original! $425

45 Colt & Schofield Frankford Arsenal, 1879, Schofield & Colt. The last year of the early style, coated/shellacked boxes. Much less common than the 1878 packets. The label is not well-centered (laps over front edge). Otherwise nice--sealed, clean and tight! $365

  7/10/24
22 Rem Auto Hol Pt
(Rem Model 16)
Peters. A very scarce caliber by an obsolete maker is enough to make this a very desirable and collectible box even ignoring the fact that it's in the RARE Hollow Point loading! PCC-8 RA-2, it also remains FACTORY-SEALED! If you're not familiar with the gun, only about 17,700 guns were ever produced by Remington (1916-1928) and the cartridge was unique, not interchangeable with ANY other caliber. As a result it became obsolete very quickly and rare eventually--this variety being among the very rarest!   [From my personal collection. Photo'd in shrink-wrap.] $250

22 Rem Spl (WRF)
"Silvadry"
Remington. The desirable "Silvadry" in the RARE standard velocity loading--(the "Hi-Power" loading, while still quite scarce, is far more common). While the box shows some minor shelf-wear/handling, flaps and seams are tight and cartridges are all original and appear native to the box. REM-7.3 WRF-1a.

45 Auto (ACP)
Scarce 200 gr
Remington-UMC. This is the scarce 200 gr bullet loading as originally cataloged for the Colt Model 1905 (but, like the much more common 230 gr, was--and still is in several different forms--also functional in the M1911). While the side-seal remains intact along the back edge and left end the seal is split on the front edge and right end leaving it approximately 90% complete. That said, the box is not, and annot, be opened; hence, it remains factory-sealed! $285

30-30 FMJ

Western. Only around for a few years during the Depression, this early "High Velocity" labeling is rarely seen! A very scarce, little known and highly collectible variety of these iconic Model '94 calibers! $195

Commemorative
[Pls read description] Winchester. This great box is printed on a reflective silver coating that renders it impossible to scan with any clarity. Can send photos if you're interested or if you're not familiar with the graphic which shows gold-tone cameo-sized images of Custer on one side and Crazy Horse on the other. It's a box of 20 ctdgs in 2 rows of 10: 6"long x 2"wide x 1-1/4"high. In the opinion of many it's the most desirable of the entire series of commemorative boxes; unfortunately, nearly all such boxes show significant flaking, scratching, rubbing, etc. So, in spite of this box's infinitesimal imperfections, very, very few have survived as nice as this and I've not found one nicer--and that includes the one in my personal collection! I doubt "perfection" exists in any of these. $195

44 XL Shot Winchester. Full, solid & original, this is a mid/late-1920s Blk Pwdr box of .44 XL #8 Shot ctdgs all of which appear to be in nice original condition with shot sabots intact (a rarity!). First full box of 44 XL I've had in years! $495

22 LR Remington. Why bother to show a box like this?? Good question, actually, as it's rough and has only 18 rds. BUT: It's the FIRST Dogbone box (1926, note the absence of the R-code); Note that it's a Hollow Point loading; Note the graphic format of "Hollow Point" above & below the logo, not within; Note all the ctdgs have an impressed "S" (denoting Smkls) near the case mouth; Note that it's only...... $25

30-30 Winchester. Ca 1906, the 1st year of label-dating, this is Type 2, Var 4 labeling (Giles & Shuey, pg 175). Shows minor wear but the box remains tight and unrepaired with all its original ctdgs. These early boxes getting very hard to find! $185

30-30 Winchester. Ca 1915, 1st year of the folded construction boxes, this is Type 3, Var 1 (SP). Ctdgs are all original and among the last years to exhibit the "protected primers". While not sealed, the condition is EXC in all regards. $225

(Win M'07)
Remington Kleanbore, 180 gr JSP. All original, native-to-the-box ctdgs. I know this sounds ridiculous but this caliber is getting hard to find. I assume it's just being hoarded as there are a LOT of guns out there but the ammo has become obsolete. $185
38 S Rim Fire U.M.C. Ca 1890s, Blk Pwdr box, solid and unrepaired it's full of its original ctdgs; in fact, it appears the rds have never been out of the box! Ever!! $195
38-55 Winchester. Despite lid-top and both end labels dated 10-6 this box has a primary (front) label dtd 1-12, so it must be considered to be a 1912 (or slightly later) box. This is not uncommmon as most boxes from this era had 4-6 labels but not usually 6 years difference among them. The box shows some scuffing and wear but shows no dents, splits or repairs and is full of correct, original ctdgs. $125

Rare "Lesmok" Box
Remington-UMC, "split-logo" labeling, ca 1911-13. Lesmok was used by both Remington and Winchester in very few calibers other than the rimfires and a very few C.F. pistol/small-rifle calibers such as this. It was discontinued shortly after introduction, probably due to slow sales, both factors attesting and adding to the scarcity of Lesmok boxes. The box is solid in all regards and ammo appears all original. SCARCE! $475

45 Auto (ACP) Remington. Very scarce 1921/22 "Successors to" box, the transition labeling between "Remington-UMC" and Remington Arms Co, Inc". Side-seal recommendation has the Colt signature logo as well as the desirable Rampant Colt. Solid box w/ no repairs and all native-to-the-box ctdgs. $150

32 Auto (ACP) Western Ctdg Co. Forty-two original rounds remain in this 2-pc box from the early-'Teens, a seldom-seen Soft Point loading in an Automatic pistol caliber. Western boxes from this period are scarce enough in their own right but quite rare in auto-caliber Soft Point. The box is solid with no repairs and actually remains sealed along the front long edge. Clean, nice!

35 S&W Auto Remington-UMC. Developed for the Smith & Wesson Model 35 (sometimes called the Model 1913, the year in which it was introduced), S&W's entry into the semi-auto pistol market wasn't very successful: It lasted only 9 years and sales averaged fewer than 1,000 guns a year. The caliber, while titled ".35 S&W", differed only slightly from the .32 ACP; in fact, the similarity was such that the Colt caliber functioned very well in the M35 and was cheaper. So there are 3 significant reasons why this is such a seldom-seen caliber: First, it was only marketed for a few years; second, very few guns (all S&W M35s) were ever chambered for it; and, third, it was more costly than the alternative 32 ACP. This rare box remains FACTORY-SEALED and is in EXC condition!    [From the Reichenbach collection] $200

32 S&W Warner Arms (of Brooklyn), distributor, but mfd in Germany. Early 1/2-split style 2-pc box, thought to be late-1890s/1900.  Side-seal label approx 95%.
Interesting and CHEAP!

38 S&W Spl Mid Range Winchester. This was Winchester's "premium" target ammunition offering, ca 1914. The ctdgs (of which 17 remain) have the sharp-shoulder bullet and are packed individually in a specially constructed "divider" box (see pix). Scarce and CHEAP!

25 S. Rim Fire Winchester. This 1939-1944 war-time era 2-pc box appears sealed but upon close inspection it has been opened (with a razor?) at the left end. Unfortunately, the obvious label scratch makes this box available at the Bargain Bin price of... $120
38 Long Rim Fire U.S. Cartridge Co.  Full of the desirable "raised US" headstamp rds this early Blk Pwdr 2-pc box shows no repairs and retains approx 95% of its side-seal label (although there's a 1"x 1/2" sticker on one end, "186"). $140
32 S&W SHOT! Winchester. Rare "No. 12 Shot" loading, ca 1900. Labeling doesn't specify whether Smokeless or Blk Pwdr and is pre-1902 label color protocols so we can't tell, but guessing BP. Box has 30 original ctdgs and is unrepaired and solid in all respects. The labels are 93-94 % (the only label loss being at the bottom of the left end of the lid). As much an oddity as a rarity! $95
25 Stevens RF Long

Peters. While the box is missing one end flap and the other is pasted on, this remains a full box of clean ctdgs! $145

38 S&W Special 200 gr.
Super Police

Western. Ca 1962, these boxes are exceptionally scarce in this short-lived 200 grain Super Police loading! The ctdgs have the "gold" Lubaloy bullets and Nickeled cases. And while as NEW from an original case this box has a corner-crinkle at the bottom-right back corner. So, CHEAP:

303 British
RARE
Winchester. While this box is a bit dark, it is solid, tight and unrepaired. Unfortunately, while all the ctdgs are headstamped "303 British", only ONE is correct and native to the box. Still, for Winchester rifle box collectors, especially Model 1895 collectors, I quote the following from Giles & Shuey, One Hundred Years of Winchester Cartridge Boxes, 1856-1956: "...there is probably no Winchester lever-action rifle caliber that is more elusive in ANY two-piece commercial box than the 303 British!"  'Nuff said! $110
45-70 Shot       Peters. This RARE and early 2-pc box is thought to be ca 1899 and, as called out only by the end-label stickers, is in Peters' "newly-introduced" Semi-Smokeless powder loading. Also, the only "SHOT" callout is found on pasted-on stickers on the ends.  The box is tight in all all respects with no repairs or problems.

56-50 Spencer [Boston Armory] Attractively housed in a hinged plastic case under a (loose) original label from a "No. 56" 42-box, this is an unmarked original 7-pk of un-headstamped ctdgs. The box itself is separated at the seams and the loose label does not, in my opinion, correspond with the 7-pk of cartridges. It is, however, in exceptional condition and, being of Civil War vintage, is of significant interest in its own right: "No. 56, Navy and Infantry Size. Armory,--Chickering's Bldg, Tremont St., BOSTON, U.S." A bit of U.S. history very reasonably priced! $145
45 Colt & Schofield
Blanks
Frankford Arsenal, "PISTOL CARTRIDGES", with "Oct 23 1882" date-stamped on side. This is the only year that these were called Pistol ctdgs rather than Revolver ctdgs; in fact, I've only ever seen 4 of these 1882 "Pistol" packets and they've all been dated during the 4th week in Oct of 1882! Very uncommon! $150
30-30 FMJ
[Bargain Bin]
Winchester. Full Patch (FMJ) loading, lbl-dtd 7-15, 9-16. Partial box of 13 native, original ctdgs, most which show some corrosion; however, the rds do have the desirable "protected primers", the last year in which those are to be found. The box is the main thing here of course: it's very solid with no stains, splits or repairs. Further, it's the very first variety of the Type 3 box in Giles & Shuey (pg 176, T-3 V-1). A very nice display box, cheap! $125

38 Colt Special Winchester. Popular "1932" style box in EXC condition with no splits or repairs. Cartridges all correct and appear native. This is one of those calibers that Winchester tried to turn into a proprietary caliber. The only difference between this and 38 S&W Special is the flat-nose bullet, the cartridges are interchangeable. But Winchester tried to capture the Colt owners by calling it the .38 Colt Special and listing the Colt Army Special, Colt Police Positive Special and Colt Officer's Model (as well as the S&W ) on both the top & side labels. Interesting and somewhat historical.
