44 S&W "Army Revolver"
Martin primed. April 1871 |
|
"National Armory, Springfield, Mass. / April, 1871.".
SEALED 12-pack. VERY RARE and VERY EARLY packet of the .44 S&W Martin-primed
center-fire cartridge!! The National Armory, founded in Spfld MA in 1777, was George
Washington's concept designed to safeguard our young nation's armament from
the British. The last dated ammo I have seen from Nat'l Armory is 1871, the
year of this box. Thereafter everything is from Frankford Arsenal. The box is tight with intact
pull string and no seam splits. This is a real piece of our
country's history! |

45 "Colt's Revolver" |
|
"Frankford Arsenal / April, 1874". These early
Benet-primed "Colt's Revolver, Cal; .45"-marked (pre-Schofield) packets were
month-dated from Oct 1873-Aug 1874 only. Thereafter, the .45 "Revolver Ball"
cartridges, which were shorter and less powerful to accommodate use in the
S&W Schofield as well as the Colt, were year-dated till 1882. This box is still SEALED w/ string-pull intact!
[The variance in coloration of these packets is due to to the uneven lacquer
coating used to weatherproof them.] |

45 "Colt's Revolver" |
|
"Frankford Arsenal / February, 1874". These
early Benet-primed "Colt's Revolver, Cal; .45"-marked(pre-Schofield) packets
were month-dated from Oct 1873-Aug 1874 only. Thereafter, the .45 "Revolver
Ball" cartridges, which were shorter and less powerful to accommodate use in
the S&W Schofield as well as the Colt, were year-dated till 1882.
While there's a bit of "crinkling" at top-center edge (as it apparently left
the factory), this box is factory SEALED w/ string-pull intact! [The variance in coloration of these packets is due to to the uneven lacquer
coating used to weatherproof them.] |
$700 |
45 "Colt's Revolver" |
|
"Frankford Arsenal / August, 1874". These early
Benet-primed "Colt's Revolver, Cal; .45" -marked (pre-Schofield) packets
were month-dated from Oct 1873-August, 1874 only--making this example one of
the very last "Colt's Revolver" marked packets!. Thereafter, the .45
"Revolver Ball" cartridges, which were shorter and less powerful to
accommodate use in the S&W Schofield as well as the Colt, were year-dated
till 1882. This box is still SEALED w/ string-pull intact!
[The variance in coloration of these packets is due to to the uneven lacquer
coating used to weatherproof them.] |

351 WSL (Win M1907) |
|
Winchester. In the last of
the 2-pc 1920-style "full-cover" boxes is this FULL PATCH (FMJ) loading with
"Staynless/Non-Mercuric/Oilproof" callout, and "WRACo" headstamps, a
combination which dates this labeling to 1932-33. The label on these boxes
is one that covers the top, wraps over the ends and seals on the bottom.
While the label is (barely noticeably) split at the right end as it seals on
the bottom, the box remains unopened (and would be impossible to open
without splitting the end-edges). Scarce, colorful box in EXC condition!
(Photo'd in shrink-wrap) |

401 WSL (Win M1910) |
|
Winchester. Label-dated
1911, this is a VERY early, red label example of the scarce (relative to the
JSP), "Metal Patched Bullet" (FMJ) loading. While showing moderate handling
wear and the minor (but typical) bottom-end separations, the box is in solid
condition, unrepaired, with all original cartridges.

Winchester. The colorful and highly collectible
"1935/1939" graphic in the 200gr JSP loading. The box shows
moderate handling/shelf wear but the flaps & seams are tight
and unrepaired. A seldom-seen caliber in what is, by far, the most
collectible series of Winchester's 1-pc boxes!

22 Savage Hi Power |
|
Winchester. RARE "Pointed
Full Patch" labeling. Label dates are 8-15 and 3-19 but the over-printed "Staynless"
callout makes this box about 10 years later, attesting to the low demand
and, ultimately, the rarity of this loading! No repairs or edge problems.
[This box has been a part of my personal collection since 1993, 31
years!] |

25-35 Win. |
|
Winchester. This unusual box has a lid label dated 8-6,
front label is 10-9, "Red W" end labels are 1-7, "License to the Trade"
label on back of lid is 10-10; and, in tiny print, "...and throughout the
world" (ca 1911) is added in an over-print to the trade mark line! This
variety not in Giles & Shuey (2006), and was unknown until 2023.

303 Savage Miniature |

original ctdgs remain. Box is tight with only one minor seam separation
(bottom of left end). [This box has been a part of my

33 WCF (WIN) |
|
UMC/Rem-UMC transition box, ca 1910-11. Interesting box
with --all original--labeling calling out both UMC (1910 & earlier) as well
as the combined Remington-UMC logo of 1911 on bottom ends. The cartridges,
however, while factory-loaded are mixed; mostly being the much scarcer &
earliest "UMC" headstamps with the "u" brass (denoting Smokeless) primers
but also including similar ctdgs with the Rem-UMC headstamp. The latter,
given the labeling, may or may not have been native to the box. There are
also four slightly later (mid-'Teens) rds with nickeled primers. It's
logical that such transition boxes such as this (in many other calibers and
labelings) should exist but, though I've suspected a few others, this is the
first of which I'm confident!

Winchester. This is the last box graphic in which
Winchester offered this caliber; called the "1946" style, it was
discontinued in the early/mid-'50s. This box is missing both end flaps,
however the cartridges are all factory-loaded and original and bearing the
last headstamp: "WRA 33 Win". Like the Remington boxes above, it's not
exactly collectible quality but the powder "shakes free" in the ctdgs. |

50-110 Winchester Express |
|
Winchester. AS ABOVE EXCEPT DESIRABLE BLUE LABEL & NICER! One
of the most collectible of all Winchester cartridges AND cartridge boxes,
this is the Black Powder "Express" box intro'd in the late-1880s. Express
cartridges all have the correct "raised X" on the copper tube in the
nose of the bullet. [See Giles & Shuey, pg 160.]
However this box has much less scuffing and NONE of
the usual bottom end separations. Again, a great find for cartridge
collector, cartridge box collector or Win M86 collector.

50-110
Early Smokeless
RARE
Jacketed
Hollow Points |
Winchester. This very scarce blue labeling is earliest of the Smokeless loadings
with the "47 grs Smkls Pwdr" callout, ca 1896-98 (see Giles & Shuey,
pg. 161). Except for some normal "shelf-wear", the labels are complete and both of the desirable "Sunburst " labels are present,
"Smokeless" on the front and "Soft Point Metal Patched" on the end.
Most interesting, however, is the fact that the bullets in these
early Smkls boxes were not simply Jacketed Soft Points, but were Jacketed
HOLLOW Soft Points! Cartridges are clean & correct. A great find in this
largest of Win M86 calibers.

22 Cal. Daisy VL Caseless Ammunition |
|
Daisy/Heddon.
During 1968-69, Daisy, America's best-known "BB-Gun" manufacturer, produced
a rifle that fired these caseless cartridges that no primer or case but
propelled a 29gr .22 bullet (same as a standard .22 S or L) at 1150
fps. The BATF, however, demanded Daisy become licensed as a firearms
manufacturer (rather than airguns) and Daisy was reluctant to take that step
and exited the business, opting and return to making and marketing their
line of famous BB guns. The ammo came packaged in 100-rd strip packs, 10
packs to a "brick". And offered here is the opportunity to buy a quantity of
the fast-disappearing ammo for these seldom seen, now "Curio & Relic",
little guns! |

Peters. Thought
to be ca. mid-'Teens, this 2-pc "Semi-Smokeless" box is full of properly

paper sabots containing the shot are all tight--very unusual, as these are
fragile and most often found partially split or even open (or worse). This

Western "Red
Diamond" 2-pc bx in RARE "NUBLEND PWDR" loading. As with Lesmok (used by
Remington and Winchester) very few calibers other than the rimfires and some
C.F. pistol calibers were loaded in Nublend. Unfortunately, while 14 rds are
correct and native to the box, 6 are Rem-UMC "fillers". Still, this remains
a desirable and very collectible box and labeling! [And CHEAP!] |

they never went forward with it. |

1880s, a hundred years earlier than this offering! |

"No. 12 Shot" loading, ca 1900. Labeling doesn't specify whether Smokeless

guessing BP. Box has 30 original ctdgs
and is unrepaired and solid in all respects. The labels are 93-94 % (the
only label loss being at the bottom of the left end of the lid). As much an
oddity as a rarity! |

56-50 Spencer |
|
[Boston Armory]
Attractively housed in a hinged plastic case under a (loose) original label
from a "No. 56" 42-box, this is an unmarked original 7-pk of un-headstamped
ctdgs. The box itself is separated at the seams and the loose label does
not, in my opinion, correspond with the 7-pk of cartridges. It is, however,
in exceptional condition and, being of Civil War vintage, is of significant
interest in its own right: "No. 56, Navy and Infantry Size. Armory,--Chickering's
Bldg, Tremont St., BOSTON, U.S." A bit of U.S. history very reasonably
priced! |

they've all been dated during the 4th week in Oct of 1882! Very uncommon! |
