303 British |
![]() |
Winchester. First cataloged in March, 1898, this green label, square-cornered Smokeless box represents the very first Winchester offering in this caliber. The box exhibits both of the desirable "Sunburst" labels and retains 10 correct cartridges. As a side note, the headstamp on the ctdg pic on the label is: "WRACo BRITISH"; interestingly, Winchester never in the history of its production headstamped this caliber that way (no ".303")! Also, it's of interest to note that the earliest box in this caliber shown in Giles & Shuey is an orange label box which is 1907-dated and is one of the very few credited to an outside contributor. As stated in the book: "...there is probably no Winchester lever-action rifle caliber that is more elusive in ANY two-piece commercial box than the 303 British." I wrote that in 2006 and it's still true today. From my personal collection, the only such box I have ever owned or even seen, it is unquestionably a TRUE RARITY!! | $375 |
405 WCF |
![]() |
Winchester. Introduced in 1904, this early .405 labeling 6-6
(primary) and 1-7 (end labels) is seldom seen, especially so nice: Not only
is it clean but there are none of the typical end separations, most unusual
in boxes of such a heavy caliber. It's well-known that this caliber was a favorite of Teddy Roosevelt, but you can hereby own such a box that was actually made during TR's term in office as President! [From my personal collection] |

Winchester. From the late-'Teens, this box is in EXC
condition showing only barely noticeable bottom-end separations; more
importantly, however, the box remains FACTORY SEALED! [From my personal collection] |

Western Super-X. The desirable 250 Gr SILVERTIPS in the
famous "Standing Grizzly" box. Late-'40s Bear boxes are not found with
Winchester "Crouching Bear" graphics as those boxes ended by 1946. So if you
want a Grizzly box to display with a Post-War M71, this is your only choice. EXC condition showing only the slightest imperfections and NO seam or flap problems. Further, cartridges are all original and appear native to the box. NICE! |
$185 |
348 Win M71 |
![]() |
Winchester Super Speed, 200 gr. SILVERTIPS. This Winchester style, often referred to as the "1946 Type" is the perfect one for display with most Post-War guns as, coincidentally, this graphic and the M71 both were discontinued after 1958. As a result, this 1946 Type is always very much in demand. Solid, colorful box in EXC condition! | $135 |
348 Win M71 |
![]() |
Winchester Super Speed, 200 gr. SILVERTIPS. Ca 1962, this is the LAST of the "pure" Winchester brand, beyond which everything was marketed as "Winchester-Western". EXC condition; but for the exception of a lower edge "bump" this box would be considered just about perfect as are the Silvertip cartridges within! | $115 |

348 Win M71 {Bargain Bin] |

Winchester Super Speed, 150 gr. This is the earliest type and variety of this iconic caliber: the "1935" box. The box has a couple "corner problems" and is missing 1 ctdg, however the 19 remaining are all original and appear native. Some TLC could turn this box into a first-rate display box! | $90 |

Winchester Super Speed, 150 gr. SILVERTIPS. Sometimes referred to as the "1946 Type", this slightly later variety is ca 1951-54. There's writing on the front and scuffs on the back and, as if that wasn't enough, there are only 13 ctdgs in the box! But they ARE all original Silvertips... | $45 |

22 RF Extra Long | SWISS (Eidgenossen Munitionsfabrik, Thun). Clean .22 XL RF ctdgs in a box with a sticker-label: "Manipulier". Take a chance or educate me! |

SWISS. Thought to be the last loading in this extinct caliber, this box retains 43 of its clean, original rds. And I know there are a few folks out there with guns chambered for 22 XL RF who could use such a box. Winchester. (1870s!) box with 37 original ctdgs. Besides the obvious white tape removal, the lid lacks the left end and front edge. But the 37 rds are headstamped with the very early "small 'H' in a circle"! And this box is priced simply on the value of the cartridges (or less!). | $175 |
41 Short Rim Fire |
![]() |
Winchester. This Black Powder 2-pc box, while showing some obvious "shelf wear" and clear-taped lid corners, remains full of correct "large impressed 'H'" headstamped cartridges. The rds have original patina and properly oxidized ("frosty") bullets. | $275 |

.40 Cal, 370 Gr Paper-Patched Bullets |

Winchester. Box of 25 Paper-Patched 370 Gr bullets. These were the commonly used bullets in the reloading of 40-90 Sharps cartridges (both Straight and Bottle-neck) and probably some others as well. amusement park type "clay-bird" shooting.
Obviously it didn't work out as planned and the
mini-shotguns as well as their cartridges (hereby offered) are rare!
Box is tight and apparently full as it remains
sealed on one side and I don't believe it could be opened without splitting
the seams. [Photo'd as wrapped in plastic.] |

to international competition in 1873, it was situated on Long Island and was
built with the--now unimaginable--combined efforts of the NRA and the New

45 Colt -- Dec 1873 |
![]() |
Frankford Arsenal. SEALED. These early Benet-primed "Colt's Revolver, Cal; .45" (pre-Schofield) packets were month-dated from Oct 1873-Aug 1874 only. Thereafter, the .45 "Revolver Ball" cartridges, which were shorter and less powerful to accommodate use in the S&W Schofield as well as the Colt, were year-dated till 1882. This box is dated December 1873, the 1st month of actual Colt SAA shipments from the factory. (Oct is quite rare and virtually unattainable). String-pull remains lacquered in place. The box shows none of the typical edge separations and is totally original, never re-sealed or tampered with in any way. Exceptional! |

Winchester, "1945" Series, this
is the rarest of the 3 varieties of the "1935" style: the "1945 Olin" box.
Further, this is the true "3000 fps" 87 gr loading for which the cartridge
was named and which the headstamp denotes. The Olin designation was formally announced in Nov 1944 but obviously
wouldn't have made it on to labels till some months after that date. But the
introduction of the (red & yellow) "1946" style followed very quickly so
this "1945" box could not have been offered except for a few months. It is
known in only a very limited number of calibers with this being one of the
scarcest! EXC condition with absolutely no problems! |

While there's a bit of "crinkling" at top-center edge (as it apparently left the factory), this box is factory SEALED w/ string-pull intact! [The variance in coloration of these packets is due to to the uneven lacquer coating used to weatherproof them.] |

These early Benet-primed "Colt's Revolver, Cal; .45" -marked (pre-Schofield) packets were month-dated from Oct 1873-August, 1874 only--making this example one of the very last "Colt's Revolver" marked packets!. Winchester. In the last of
the 2-pc 1920-style "full-cover" boxes is this FULL PATCH (FMJ) loading with
"Staynless/Non-Mercuric/Oilproof" callout, and "WRACo" headstamps, a
combination which dates this labeling to 1932-33. The label on these boxes
is one that covers the top, wraps over the ends and seals on the bottom.
While the label is (barely noticeably) split at the right end as it seals on
the bottom, the box remains unopened (and would be impossible to open
without splitting the end-edges). Scarce, colorful box in EXC condition! (Photo'd in shrink-wrap) |

UMC/Rem-UMC transition box, ca 1910-11. Interesting box
with --all original--labeling calling out both UMC (1910 & earlier) as well
as the combined Remington-UMC logo of 1911 on bottom ends. The cartridges,
however, while factory-loaded are mixed; mostly being the much scarcer &
earliest "UMC" headstamps with the "u" brass (denoting Smokeless) primers
but also including similar ctdgs with the Rem-UMC headstamp. The latter,
given the labeling, may or may not have been native to the box. There are
also four slightly later (mid-'Teens) rds with nickeled primers. It's
logical that such transition boxes such as this (in many other calibers and
labelings) should exist but, though I've suspected a few others, this is the
first of which I'm confident! [From my personal collection] |

Winchester. This very scarce blue labeling is earliest of the Smokeless loadings
with the "47 grs Smkls Pwdr" callout, ca 1896-98 (see Giles & Shuey,
pg. 161). Except for some normal "shelf-wear", the labels are complete and both of the desirable "Sunburst " labels are present,
"Smokeless" on the front and "Soft Point Metal Patched" on the end.
Most interesting, however, is the fact that the bullets in these
early Smkls boxes were not simply Jacketed Soft Points, but were Jacketed
HOLLOW Soft Points! Cartridges are clean & correct. A great find in this
largest of Win M86 calibers. [This is only one of 3 such boxes I have had in 30+ years!] |

Daisy/Heddon. The BATF, however, demanded Daisy become licensed as a firearms manufacturer (rather than airguns) and Daisy was reluctant to take that step and exited the business, opting and return to making and marketing their line of famous BB guns. The ammo came packaged in 100-rd strip packs, 10 packs to a "brick". U.S. Cartridge Co. Full of the desirable "raised US" headstamp rds this early Blk Pwdr 2-pc box shows no repairs and retains approx 95% of its side-seal label (although there's a 1"x 1/2" sticker on one end, "186"). | $140 |
32 S&W SHOT! |
![]() |
Winchester. Rare "No. 12 Shot" loading, ca 1900. Labeling doesn't specify whether Smokeless or Blk Pwdr and is pre-1902 label color protocols so we can't tell, but guessing BP. Box has 30 original ctdgs and is unrepaired and solid in all respects. The labels are 93-94 % (the only label loss being at the bottom of the left end of the lid). As much an oddity as a rarity! | $95 |

Western. Ca 1962, these boxes are exceptionally scarce in this short-lived 200 grain Super Police loading! The ctdgs have the "gold" Lubaloy bullets and Nickeled cases. And while as NEW from an original case this box has a corner-crinkle at the bottom-right back corner. So, CHEAP: |

56-50 Spencer |
![]() |
[Boston Armory] Attractively housed in a hinged plastic case under a (loose) original label from a "No. 56" 42-box, this is an unmarked original 7-pk of un-headstamped ctdgs. The box itself is separated at the seams and the loose label does not, in my opinion, correspond with the 7-pk of cartridges. It is, however, in exceptional condition and, being of Civil War vintage, is of significant interest in its own right: "No. 56, Navy and Infantry Size. Armory,--Chickering's Bldg, Tremont St., BOSTON, U.S." A bit of U.S. history very reasonably priced! | $145 |
45 Colt & Schofield Blanks |

Frankford Arsenal, "PISTOL CARTRIDGES", with "Oct 23 1882" date-stamped on side. This is the only year that these were called Pistol ctdgs rather than Revolver ctdgs; in fact, I've only ever seen 4 of these 1882 "Pistol" packets and they've all been dated during the 4th week in Oct of 1882! Very uncommon! | $120 reduced |
