44 S&W "Army Revolver"
Martin primed. April 1871
"National Armory, Springfield, Mass. / April, 1871.". SEALED 12-pack. VERY RARE and VERY EARLY packet of the .44 S&W Martin-primed center-fire cartridge!! The National Armory, founded in Spfld MA in 1777, was George Washington's concept designed to safeguard our young nation's armament from the British. The last dated ammo I have seen from Nat'l Armory is 1871, the year of this box. Thereafter everything is from Frankford Arsenal. The box is tight with intact pull string and no seam splits. This is a real piece of our country's history! $950
sold
45 "Colt's Revolver" "Frankford Arsenal / April, 1874". These early Benet-primed "Colt's Revolver, Cal; .45"-marked (pre-Schofield) packets were month-dated from Oct 1873-Aug 1874 only. Thereafter, the .45 "Revolver Ball" cartridges, which were shorter and less powerful to accommodate use in the S&W Schofield as well as the Colt, were year-dated till 1882.  This box is still SEALED w/ string-pull intact!  [The variance in coloration of these packets is due to to the uneven lacquer coating used to weatherproof them.] $850
45 "Colt's Revolver" "Frankford Arsenal / February, 1874". These early Benet-primed "Colt's Revolver, Cal; .45"-marked(pre-Schofield) packets were month-dated from Oct 1873-Aug 1874 only. Thereafter, the .45 "Revolver Ball" cartridges, which were shorter and less powerful to accommodate use in the S&W Schofield as well as the Colt, were year-dated till 1882.  While there's a bit of "crinkling" at top-center edge (as it apparently left the factory), this box is factory SEALED w/ string-pull intact!  [The variance in coloration of these packets is due to to the uneven lacquer coating used to weatherproof them.] $700
45 "Colt's Revolver" "Frankford Arsenal / August, 1874". These early Benet-primed "Colt's Revolver, Cal; .45" -marked (pre-Schofield) packets were month-dated from Oct 1873-August, 1874 only--making this example one of the very last "Colt's Revolver" marked packets!.

38 S&W Special
Rare 200gr b't.
Winchester. While not in premier condition, there are no splits, missing parts or repairs--and it's the only 200 gr "1946" Series Win 38 Spl box I've ever had or seen! [From my personal collection--where it's been for 19 years]. $75
  12/12/2024
351 WSL (Win M1907) Winchester. In the last of the 2-pc 1920-style "full-cover" boxes is this FULL PATCH (FMJ) loading with "Staynless/Non-Mercuric/Oilproof" callout, and "WRACo" headstamps, a combination which dates this labeling to 1932-33. The label on these boxes is one that covers the top, wraps over the ends and seals on the bottom.  While the label is (barely noticeably) split at the right end as it seals on the bottom, the box remains unopened (and would be impossible to open without splitting the end-edges). Scarce, colorful box in EXC condition!
(Photo'd in shrink-wrap)
$175
401 WSL (Win M1910)  Winchester. Label-dated 1911, this is a VERY early, red label example of the scarce (relative to the JSP), "Metal Patched Bullet" (FMJ) loading. While showing moderate handling wear and the minor (but typical) bottom-end separations, the box is in solid condition, unrepaired, with all original cartridges.

401 WSL (Win M1910) Winchester. The colorful and highly collectible "1935/1939" graphic in the 200gr JSP loading. The box shows moderate handling/shelf wear but the flaps & seams are tight and unrepaired. A seldom-seen caliber in what is, by far, the most collectible series of Winchester's 1-pc boxes!

256 Win Mag
[Bargain Bin]
Win-Western, 1970s box containing 10 factory ctdgs + 6 fired brass. $20
  11/22/24
22 Savage Hi Power Winchester. RARE "Pointed Full Patch" labeling. Label dates are 8-15 and 3-19 but the over-printed "Staynless" callout makes this box about 10 years later, attesting to the low demand and, ultimately, the rarity of this loading! No repairs or edge problems.   [This box has been a part of my personal collection since 1993, 31 years!] $175
25-35 Win. Winchester. This unusual box has a lid label dated 8-6, front label is 10-9, "Red W" end labels are 1-7, "License to the Trade" label on back of lid is 10-10; and, in tiny print, "...and throughout the world" (ca 1911) is added in an over-print to the trade mark line! This variety not in Giles & Shuey (2006), and was unknown until 2023.

25-36 Marlin Winchester. "For Marlin Magazine Rifles, Model 1893". This RARE box is ca 1898-99 and bears both of the desirable yellow "Sunburst" labels: the "Smokeless" (on front) and the "Soft Point Metal Patched" (on right end)! Seldom offered! Tight seams, no repairs!  [This box has been a part of my personal collection since 1992, 32 years!] $295

303 Savage Miniature Winchester. Scarce and very early loading (judging by the lid label, 1898 or earlier), intended for the Model 1893 and (possibly, but not necessarily) predating the introduction of the Savage Model 1899! Eleven (11) original ctdgs remain. Box is tight with only one minor seam separation (bottom of left end). [This box has been a part of my personal collection since April, 1996!] $85
(reduced)
303 British U.S. Cartridge Co. "Ball Cartridges for...Winchester Model 1895 Rifle". Early 1900's box in the rarest caliber to be found in a Winchester 2-pc box. This is the only USC box I've ever had in 303 Brit also! Tight seams with no repairs! $195
sold
303 British Winchester. Giles & Shuey, pg 214: "...there is probably no Winchester lever-action rifle caliber that is more elusive in ANY 2-piece commercial box than the 303 British.". Fifteen original ctgs remain; tight seams with no repairs! THIS IS THE BOX PICTURED ON PG 215!  (For the full story on this WWI issue "MK VII Standards" box, see pg 215 Giles & Shuey or email/text me for a photo of it)

[This box has been a part of my personal collection since 1993!]

Norma. As above: Now rare in this, its original factory loading, the cartridge was developed and originally loaded in Europe but never gained much traction in the U.S. These boxes together contain 26 orig rds + 14 fired brass, the top box pictured being full but with loose flaps, the lower box missing the right flap. $50

358 Winchester Winchester-Western, the scarce and most desirable 200 gr SILVERTIPS (not "Power Points"). The greatest fodder for those rare Winchester Model 88s and Model 70s--and the ammo's getting to be as rare as the guns!! $95
  9/20/24
33 WCF (WIN) UMC/Rem-UMC transition box, ca 1910-11. Interesting box with --all original--labeling calling out both UMC (1910 & earlier) as well as the combined Remington-UMC logo of 1911 on bottom ends. The cartridges, however, while factory-loaded are mixed; mostly being the much scarcer & earliest "UMC" headstamps with the "u" brass (denoting Smokeless) primers but also including similar ctdgs with the Rem-UMC headstamp. The latter, given the labeling, may or may not have been native to the box. There are also four slightly later (mid-'Teens) rds with nickeled primers. It's logical that such transition boxes such as this (in many other calibers and labelings) should exist but, though I've suspected a few others, this is the first of which I'm confident!

33 WCF (WIN)

Winchester. This is the last box graphic in which Winchester offered this caliber; called the "1946" style, it was discontinued in the early/mid-'50s. This box is missing both end flaps, however the cartridges are all factory-loaded and original and bearing the last headstamp: "WRA 33 Win". Like the Remington boxes above, it's not exactly collectible quality but the powder "shakes free" in the ctdgs. $95

  9/11/24
38-55 Winchester-Western. Orig boxes of clean, factory-loaded NOS ("New Old Stock") ctdgs, have 6! $75
  9/8/24
50-110 Winchester Express Winchester. AS ABOVE EXCEPT DESIRABLE BLUE LABEL & NICER! One of the most collectible of all Winchester cartridges AND cartridge boxes, this is the Black Powder "Express" box intro'd in the late-1880s. Express cartridges all have the correct "raised X" on the  copper tube in the nose of the bullet. [See Giles & Shuey, pg 160.]
However this box has much less scuffing and NONE of the usual bottom end separations. Again, a great find for cartridge collector, cartridge box collector or Win M86 collector.

Early Smokeless
RARE
Jacketed
Hollow Points

Winchester. This very scarce blue labeling is earliest of the Smokeless loadings with the "47 grs Smkls Pwdr" callout, ca 1896-98 (see Giles & Shuey, pg. 161). Except for some normal "shelf-wear", the labels are complete and both of the desirable "Sunburst " labels are present, "Smokeless" on the front and "Soft Point Metal Patched" on the end. Most interesting, however, is the fact that the bullets in these early Smkls boxes were not simply Jacketed Soft Points, but were Jacketed HOLLOW Soft Points!  Cartridges are clean & correct. A great find in this largest of Win M86 calibers.
[This is only one of 3 such boxes I have had in 30+ years!]

44-90 "Creedmoor" U.M.C. This is the 1870s label graphic ("prone shooter and Dog Logo") which I adapted over 30 years ago to highlight my business card! Box is full of correct catridges: Unheadstamped, ringed "balloon" heads; Berdan primed, with paper-patched bullets. A piece of history which remains my favorite box graphic of all-time, this box has been in my collection for over 30 years! $950

22 Remington Auto Remington. Scarce, early 2-pc box, ca 1920. Retains 42 corrrectly headstamped ("U") cartridges but missing side-seal label on one long side.

  8/22/24
22 Cal. Daisy VL Caseless Ammunition Daisy VL .22 Caseless Ammunition 1000 rds - For Sale - Click Image to Close Daisy/Heddon. During 1968-69, Daisy, America's best-known "BB-Gun" manufacturer, produced a rifle that fired these caseless cartridges that no primer or case but propelled a 29gr .22 bullet (same as a standard .22 S or L)  at 1150 fps. The BATF, however, demanded Daisy become licensed as a firearms manufacturer (rather than airguns) and Daisy was reluctant to take that step and exited the business, opting and return to making and marketing their line of famous BB guns. The ammo came packaged in 100-rd strip packs, 10 packs to a "brick". And offered here is the opportunity to buy a quantity of the fast-disappearing ammo for these seldom seen, now "Curio & Relic", little guns!  Case of 5 1000 rd bricks
$350

Brick of 10 100 rd bxs $75
  8/14/24
44 XL Shot Peters. Thought to be ca. mid-'Teens, this 2-pc "Semi-Smokeless" box is full of properly headstamped ctdgs albeit some have nickeled primers and some copper. The paper sabots containing the shot are all tight--very unusual, as these are fragile and most often found partially split or even open (or worse). This is the first box I've ever had by Peters and only the 2nd by any maker in the past 5 years (or longer)! $465
  8/14/24
45 "Revolver Ball"
(Colt & Schofield)
Frankford Arsenal, 1878. Sealed packet of 12 ctdgs with none of the commonly found edge-splits/repairs, repairs which are often found with the pull-string misplaced when repaired and re-sealed. This one is guaranteed to be totally original! $425
  EARLIER
"Super-X 6 m/m Win" Experimental Winchester-Western. Experimental cartridges headstamped "Super-X 6 m/m Win". From the Dan Shuey collection, obtained by Dan from one of Winchester's East St Louis factory employees. 256 Win-Magnum Winchester-Western. Clean box with clean ammo. This is a caliber (along with .25-20) that seems to have "dried up" out there. It's not a matter of price but availability--I doubt I'll be able to replace these anytime soon! (Have 2) $175
44 Russian Remington. Clean box with clean ammo. The last run in this iconic caliber! First cataloged in 1870, it was loaded commercially for right at 100 years!! $175
45 AutoRim Remington. Clean box with clean ammo. Thought to be the last commercial run in this caliber, a seldom-seen remnant of WW1. $75

22 Remington Jet Remington. The original, factory loaded by Remington (not the foreign, off-brand stuff). Box and ctdgs are EXC, near mint except for price-sticker removal on the end flap (pictured). $85
32 Win Special Western Super-X. Early/mid-1960s, last style "pure Western" box before adoption of the "Winchester-Western" Logo. Box and ctdgs are minty, only a price-tag removal stain keeps it from being fully MINT! $85
284 Win Winchester-Western, 150 gr SP. Intro'd in their M88 lever gun in 1964, this was a cartridge with capabilities which far exceeded its popularity. And now getting very hard to locate!! $145
307 Win Winchester-Western, 1980's "Horse & Rider" box, 150 gr SP. Scarce caliber, introduced in 1982 and only chambered in Winchester's Model '94, this ctdg rapidly became obsolete and has become very hard to find!

$85
35 Remington Savage Arms Corp. Early Utica address. Box is solid and unrepaired but shows some even fading. Ctdgs are clean and appear native to the box. This "Indian Chief" graphic remains among the most collectible of all cartridge boxes!! $110
375 Win Big Bore, 250 gr Winchester-Western, the original Big Bore box in which Winchester intro'd this caliber and the "Big Bore" Model 94 chambered for it. Shows some shelf wear but this caliber in the early and desirable Big Bore labeling has suddenly become very hard to find, especially in this 250 grain loading!  (Have 2) $110
32 L. Colt Winchester-Western. Ca 1970s, clean original ctdgs. $150
32 Short Colt Remington Kleanbore, ca 1950s. These .32 Colt loadings, both Longs and Shorts, getting nearly impossible to find! $135

32 S&W Warner Arms (of Brooklyn), distributor, but mfd in Germany. Early 1/2-split style 2-pc box, thought to be late-1890s/1900.  Side-seal label approx 95%.
Interesting and CHEAP!

38 S&W Spl Mid Range Winchester. This was Winchester's "premium" target ammunition offering, ca 1914. The ctdgs (of which 17 remain) have the sharp-shoulder bullet and are packed individually in a specially constructed "divider" box (see pix). Scarce and CHEAP!

25 S. Rim Fire Winchester. This 1939-1944 war-time era 2-pc box appears sealed but upon close inspection it has been opened (with a razor?) at the left end. Unfortunately, the obvious label scratch makes this box available at the Bargain Bin price of... $120
38 Long Rim Fire U.S. Cartridge Co.  Full of the desirable "raised US" headstamp rds this early Blk Pwdr 2-pc box shows no repairs and retains approx 95% of its side-seal label (although there's a 1"x 1/2" sticker on one end, "186"). $140
32 S&W SHOT! Winchester. Rare "No. 12 Shot" loading, ca 1900. Labeling doesn't specify whether Smokeless or Blk Pwdr and is pre-1902 label color protocols so we can't tell, but guessing BP. Box has 30 original ctdgs and is unrepaired and solid in all respects. The labels are 93-94 % (the only label loss being at the bottom of the left end of the lid). As much an oddity as a rarity! $95
32 Long Colt Western "Bullseye" box, ca early '50s. Left flap taped on (internally) but all original, native to the box ctdgs with "gold" Lubaloy bullets in EXC+ condition!

Very hard to find caliber!

38 S&W Special 200 gr.
Super Police

Western. Ca 1962, these boxes are exceptionally scarce in this short-lived 200 grain Super Police loading! The ctdgs have the "gold" Lubaloy bullets and Nickeled cases. And while as NEW from an original case this box has a corner-crinkle at the bottom-right back corner. So, CHEAP:

56-50 Spencer [Boston Armory] Attractively housed in a hinged plastic case under a (loose) original label from a "No. 56" 42-box, this is an unmarked original 7-pk of un-headstamped ctdgs. The box itself is separated at the seams and the loose label does not, in my opinion, correspond with the 7-pk of cartridges. It is, however, in exceptional condition and, being of Civil War vintage, is of significant interest in its own right: "No. 56, Navy and Infantry Size. Armory,--Chickering's Bldg, Tremont St., BOSTON, U.S." A bit of U.S. history very reasonably priced! $145
45 Colt & Schofield
Blanks
Frankford Arsenal, "PISTOL CARTRIDGES", with "Oct 23 1882" date-stamped on side. This is the only year that these were called Pistol ctdgs rather than Revolver ctdgs; in fact, I've only ever seen 4 of these 1882 "Pistol" packets and they've all been dated during the 4th week in Oct of 1882! Very uncommon! $120
