All known Winchester .22 boxes from the beginning of Winchester's production of that caliber in 1873 until the end of their two-piece box production in 1927 are described and (nearly all) pictured herein. S		Clinton Cartridge Co. Two-pc "Smokeless" box thought to be early-1920s. Interestingly, this is a SEARS brand sold under the Clinton name and containing ammo (most probably) made by Western; this necessitated by the fact that Sears was cut off by Winchester for discounting Winchester products. Scarcer than the Lesmok offering from the same period. Dunn: Clint-1 S-3a.	$135
S		National Cartridge Co. NCC-1 S-3. This company was only around for less than 2 years having been founded in 1908 and then sold to Western in 1909. The ctdgs are all the correctly headstamped "N" and all 6 sides--incl the bottom--are approx the same (maybe a bit better) condition as the top (shown). A rare, colorful & and very desirable box with some of the best graphics of ANY .22 box!	$350 sold

S		Phoenix Metallic Ctdg Co. Rare 19th Century 100-rd box by this early maker (founded 1874). Six "Raised P" headstamped ctdgs remain. Great graphics, solid box!	$395 sold
S		UMC. Very early (earliest?) 50-rd box. Contains 19 of its original UNHEADSTAMPED ctdgs. UMC-7 S-4a. RARE!	$175 sold
S		Winchester. The highly desirable SPOTLIGHT box (Rains: SS 8-c). The label "scratch" or "pull" at the bottom is the result of the boxes sticking together in the brick sleeve, a common occurrence with this series for some reason. At any rate, color is great and the box is still SEALED!	$225
Long Silvadry		Remington. Dogbone box, early-1930s. Here is a very scarce loading: First, it's in LONG. Second, it's "SILVADRY". Third, it's STANDARD VELOCITY. A veritable trifecta of rarity factors! To top it off, it's a variety NOT listed in DUNN! [Rem-7.3 L-1, AA btm but #6 flap. Dunn lists only #3 flap (L-1a) and #5 flap (L-1b)]. Also, forgot to mention: NEW from (partial) brick!	295 sold
Long Silvadry		Remington. This is the "High-Speed" Silvadry loading, not so rare as the above but very scarce nonetheless as are all Silvadry offerings, esp so in LONG. Dunn: REM-7.5 L-1a. Mint from orig brick!	$65 sold
LR		Peters WIMBLEDON MATCH. One of the most desirable loadings in Peters' rich legacy of collectible .22 boxes! The gold leaf is frequently found rubbed away, as was fairly easily done. Only around during the mid-1930s Depression years, this premium loading was not sold in great quantities. This is the first Wimbledon box I have offered in 22 years! Dunn: PCC-53 LR-1	$295 sold

LR		UMC. Remington's 1990s first cut at a re-introduction of the famous old brand from which it been cut loose in 1920. Mint!	$12.50
LR	[Photo'd in shrink-wrap]	U.S. Cartridge Co. The famous N.R.A. issue, ca. 1919-20, Dunn: US-51 LR-5. Has folded shot shell ad inside. This is the loading referred to by the highly regarded gun writer from the 1930s, Phil Sharpe, in his famous book The Rifle in America: "Despite the claims of ammunition makers, this author recalls one old now obsolete .22 Long Rifle, the old "U.S. NRA" made by the United States Cartridge Co at Lowell, Mass. This N.R.A. cartridge was a Lesmok powder loading, packaged in a blue box with red letters and so far outshone all other match cartridges of the early 1920's that it was practically exclusively used in the major matches."
